It was founded in 1944 and is affiliated to the Movement for Reform Judaism. It held services at Friends' Meeting House in Street Lane and, later, in Newton Park Union Church Schoolroom on Chapeltown Town Road. From about 1951 to 1960 it held its services in the defunct Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue building at 21 Leopold Street, Leeds 7.
